Blessed Are the Planners: Your Holy Smoked FAQs
Holy Smoked jerky is handcrafted, small-batch, and smoked the slow way right here in Kansas.
We believe in good meat, good flavor, and telling it straight — no mystery ingredients, no gimmicks, just smoke and sincerity. We get a lot of questions about what makes our jerky so, well, holy. Here are a few of the most common ones.
How long does it last?
Jerky can last for months when sealed and stored properly, but we recommend enjoying it within 30 days of purchase for the best flavor and texture. (If it actually lasts that long in your house, you’ve got more self-control than we do.)
How should I store it?
Store it in a cool, dry place and refrigerate after opening. It’s still meat - so don’t leave it sitting on the dashboard of your truck in 100-degree weather. It’ll spoil. Simple as that. Treat it like a treasure, not a pantry afterthought.
Is it gluten-free?
Our recipes are gluten-free, but our seasonings are made in a facility that is not. That means there’s a possibility of cross-contamination.
What about the BEEF?
We use local Kansas beef, conventionally processed (it is not grass-fed or organic).
We’re proud to support local producers and small-town supply chains that keep our jerky flavorful, affordable, and close to home.
Do you use nitrites?
We do, in very small amounts (4oz per 100lbs of meat). Nitrites are a simple way to preserve freshness and food safety. We’re open to considering alternative approaches in the future, but it’s worth noting that many “no nitrite” products simply substitute natural nitrite sources (for example, celery powder, which is high in nitrites). We prefer honesty to marketing tricks.
Do you have more flavors?
Right now we’ve got our core lineup of 3 flavors (Original Sin, Black Pepper Baptism, and Cajun Confession), with more in the works. Keep an eye out for new flavors in the form of limited specials and seasonal drops; we like to keep things smokin’.
